Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually Transmitted Disease also known as Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) is a Group of Multiple Diseases known to spread through sexual contact between one person (infected) to another person (non-infected).

There are lots of infection that can be transmitted by sexual contact. However, only several diseases occur most commonly, throughout the world, including Malaysia. The 7 Most Common STDs are HIV, Syphilis, Genital Herpes, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Trichomonas & Hepatitis.

HOW BAD IS THE SITUATION ?

Believe it or not, as the world progress towards better education, better healthcare services & better life-expectancy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases also “progress” from bad to worst !

STD Symptoms

Symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases include dysuria (pain on when passing urine), genital discharge, fever, dyspareunia (pain when having intercourse), genital ulcers, itchiness on infected areas, redness or rash, fever, swollen glands etc.

STD Screening

Screening for sexually transmitted diseases are available at Poliklinik Wecare through blood and urine tests. Antibiotics are available to treat bacterial STDs, whereas antivirals can be used to control viral STDs and prevent progression of the disease.
